Positive Behaviour for Learning - PB4L

Positive Behaviour for Learning is a school-wide initiative to help raise behaviour, improve children's well-being, and increase educational achievement.

By strengthening relationships and creating more positive home and school environments, we remove barriers to engagement and improve students' chances to achieve at school and beyond. PB4L is a long-term, systematic approach including whole-school change initiatives, targeted group programmes, and individual student support services.

At St Joseph's School  we have a team of teachers specifically assigned to developing PB4L strategies through the school. These include class-based lessons on behaviour skills, stickers and certificates to reinforce positive behaviours, public recognition in school assemblies, analysing behaviour data to help us spot trends and provide interventions, a school trust-based model for talking with students and whānau and termly celebrations.

What is PB4L?

The School-Wide framework Positive Behaviour for Learning School Wide (PB4LSW) is a long term approach that supports us to create a culture where positive behaviour and learning thrive. Students are taught in very specific terms what behaviours are expected of them. There is a consistent response to these behaviours across the school.
