Social Justice Week
For Social Justice Week this year, we celebrated by hosting Our Lady of the Snows from Methven for a variety of activities. We started the festivities with a lovely Liturgy that was run by two of our school leaders. We had a number of St Joseph's School and Our Lady of the Snows students participate in various parts of the Prayer Celebration. We then sat down together in our groups for the day for lunch. This was a great opportunity for students from the two different schools to get to know each other better. After lunch, the groups participated in four different Social Justice and/or Te Reo Māori activities (since it was also Māori language week). The theme of Social Justice Week this year was Fairness so activities helped students to develop a better understanding of this. All students thoroughly enjoyed the day. |

CARITAS Lenten Fundraiser 2019
During Lent this year, we raised money for the CARITAS Lenten Appeal by donating loose change to the money boxes on our prayer tables as well as having a themed mufti day (including a very entertaining parade). We raised $586.70 for CARITAS. This money will be going to help the people of South Sudan. Many of the children have been learning about South Sudan in RE and Topic and are passionate about making a difference for people in need.
St Joseph's Day 2019
This year, we celebrated St Joseph's Day on the 18th and 19th of March. On Monday the 18th March, students were given a special treat of an American hotdog for brunch, these were definitely a hit! We then walked down to the Events Centre where we were fortunate enough to watch a performance by the Royal New Zealand Ballet. This was a new experience for most of us! On Tuesday 19th March, we gathered at the Church for a special Mass to celebrate St Joseph and our school community. Enjoy these photos from our St Joseph's Day Festivities!

What is Special Character in our School
When I think about Special Character at St Joseph’s school , I think about the wonderful opportunities that being a school of special character offers to our students. Our students are given many experiences that enable them to grow and develop in their own Catholic faith . They are given the opportunity to learn about God and develop a deeper relationship with God and they are encouraged to live their faith by being the hands and voice of Jesus.

In our School we have many Committees, one is called the Special Character Committee. We organise prayers for the school, fundraisers, meet elderly people to keep them company and much more!
Our school thinks Special Character is about prayer through the Church and School community. The Special Character Committee is all about living in Jesus’ footsteps. This is said in our vision; “To Learn to Grow and to be the Hands and Voice of Jesus!” This means that we have to be like Jesus through our actions by showing our School Virtues. We focus on two Virtues per term. One of our virtues is “Respect.” The Golden Rule is; “To Treat others the way YOU want to be Treated.” This has been a main focus in our school which encourages younger students to be kind to one another.
