Thank you for a fabulous year Kiwi 9! Merry Christmas!!!

Truffle making and carol singing

Weaving Bonds of Belonging

Thank you to all those that came to our Weaving Bonds of Belonging night on Friday. It was a fabulous evening. Kiwi 9 was very lucky in being able to watch the preparations for the umu in the afternoon. Salote was an excellent helper for her family too.
As part of our Kiwiana unit, Kiwi 9 have been trying out hokey pokey. It was very sticky, but delicious!
On Wednesday we visited Coldstream rest home to sing some songs to them. They loved having us, and one lady who used to be a teacher even taught us a song.

Singing at Coldstream

We are learning to divide a set into fractions. Fractions are equal parts. M&M's make it even more fun!
Playing Cops and Robbers during PE with Mark

Art Exhibition!
Thank you to all those who came along

Kiwi 9 have been busy this term creating art works for our art exhibition. Here's a sneak peek...
We can't wait to show you the finished products on Thursday!!
Probability!
Kiwi 9 are learning about the chances of different events occurring. Here we are playing memory with a difference. One person is finding 'same' (matching) pairs and the other person is finding 'different' (non-matching) pairs.  Which one do you think has the higher chance of getting more pairs?!

World of Maths Interactive Show

This week we were lucky enough to go to the 'World of Maths' show. This was 17 stations set up in the parish centre where we could solve different maths problems using a variety of equipment. Thanks to our Kea helpers for taking us around the stations and helping us with the worksheet.

Kiwi 9 kids having a great time during Discovery on Friday.  It's always fun to dress up!

In our Maths learning, Kiwi 9 have been doing lots of drawing to explain our thinking. This helps us to think about the strategy we are using to solve problems.

This term Mrs Middleton has been teaching us Maths Talk Moves. We use the cards in the photo to talk about our Maths problem solving. Ask us at home how it works!

We are learning about people who help in our Parish, and how they are a sign of God's presence in the world. Connor, Cooper and Venice did a fabulous job of sketching people in the Parish.

Art exploration!

Sketching - we explored drawing using felts, charcoal, sketching pencils, crayons, and coloured pencils.
Painting - we explored paint with rollers, brushes, cardboard, sponges and newspaper.
Print making - we created prints through potato prints, stamps, crayon rubbings, and sponge shapes.
Sculpture - we used clay and egg cartons to create our own art works.
Collage - we explored collage using felt fabric, paper, crepe paper, and cellophane

Art gallery visit and looking at Art

Picture
Kiwi 9 have been looking at various art works. They enjoyed looking in books about art, and commenting on the colours used, what they think the art was about, and what medium the artist has used.
Thank you to the Art Gallery too for hosting us for a very interactive session on looking at real art pieces.
We are excited to start creating our own soon! Watch this space...

Matariki Breakfast

Thank you to everyone who came along for our Matariki Breakfast on Friday 7 July. What a great way for Kiwi 9 to share their learning with you!
Kiwi 9 are learning about position and orientation in Maths. We have been giving each other instructions to build with blocks, giving each other instructions to find a picture of Hairy Maclary, and acting out "Hairy Maclary, Scatter Cat" using position words.

Well done Kiwi 9 on sharing your prayers and Matariki artwork at school assembly on Friday. Mrs Middleton and Mrs Peck are super proud of you!

Our super snowmen we made to go with our winter poem.  Some of us took them home and others put them in their poetry book.
We worked really hard on them. It took ages for the glue to dry!

Reducing Rubbish - making beeswax lunch wraps

Kiwi 9 made beeswax lunch wraps last week in an effort to try to cut down on our lunch rubbish. We are super excited about testing them out!

SERVICE

Picture

Picture
Kiwi 9 have been participating in acts of service at school. They have picked up rubbish around the school, and weeded the vege gardens ready for new plants. What service can your Kiwi 9 kid participate in at home?
We remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us during Easter.

Guess My Number

In Kiwi 9 we have been exploring mathematical language by asking each other questions to try and guess a number between 1 and 100. We have discovered things like odd and even numbers, tens and ones, and more than/less than. Kiwi 9 kids are pretty keen to test out their parents!!

This week our school is going swimming. We lined up on the asphalt behind our time to go on the big bus. I am a 2 o'clock. I lined up behind 2 o'clock. They did the roll so they know who was here and who was not. When it was our turn to go on the big bus to the pool, I was excited. It was my first time in level 4 but my teacher Grace was impressed with me in the pool. The people in my swimming group was Isobel, Lulu, Hayley, Tienka, Tom and me. We did freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. It was splashtastic.

Today we are going on the bus to go to the amazing swimming pool. I can't wait to get in the pool. When I get there I might smile and get changed into my togs. My pool is warm. I will have a splashtastic day!!

Finished self-portraits and  Lenten promises! Come in to Kiwi 9 and see our awesome art for yourself :)

Picture

We have had a busy few days in Kiwi 9. Our self-portraits are almost finished and we cannot wait to share them with you all. We have been learning all about Jesus and how he showed he loved us and working hard to be great self-managers. ERO came to visit our classroom and were very impressed with the manners and respect Kiwi 9 children  showed. What wonderful feedback to hear! Well done :)

Patterning

Kiwi 9 have been learning about patterns over the last two weeks. We have explored body patterns, number patterns, and using materials to make patterns. Here are some of our body patterns using different formats, such as, ABABA, ABCABC, AABAAB, ABBABB.
