World of Maths
The children loved working in small groups exploring various stations and problem solving some tricky mathematical problems.
The Body
What are the chances?
We are learning about Probability. With a buddy the tamariki grouped pictures under headings showing what the chances of seeing things in the story of Little Red Riding Hood were.

This term we have been getting into creating pieces of art using the ocean as our inspiration. Check out the process we followed to create our wave in the sunset.
First we had to paint the background and we used red, orange and yellow to paint the sunset. After that we looked at lots of pictures of waves, then we ripped up dark blue tissue paper and blue and purple coloured paper so we could collage the wave over the top of the sunset.

Kiwi 1 and Kiwi 3 visited the art gallery. It was fabulous getting to look at lots of different types of art; Photographs, sculptures, paintings, sketches and more. They Described to each other what they saw in a piece and they came up with names for different pieces.
Thank you to Janelia's Mum who came to visit us in Samoan Language Week and taught us some action songs. The children really enjoyed joining in and singing along.
These are portraits that the children drew of Euphrasie Barbier. She founded the Mission Sisters who went on to establish our school. Euphrasie Barbier loved and cared for people in need.
In P.E this term Kiwi 1 has been working on balancing and jumping. Today we played Jumping Frogs and had to jump from lily pad to lily pad; first landing on two feet and then landing on one.
We had a visit from Sheryl who talked to the Kiwi Team about reducing rubbish and recycling. We looked at and talked about what we should do with various types of household rubbish.
Kiwi 1 have been working hard at writing time with Mrs Hobbs. Take a look at some writing they did last week.
Check out our gorgeous Self Portraits! Didn't we do a fabulous job!
In RE we have been learning about Jesus. We have been comparing what life was like for Jesus a long time ago with how we live today. We dressed up in clothing like what Jesus would have worn and shared a meal of bread, grapes and olives. Some of the children gave an olive a try!
We have a big focus on being Super Self Managers in our class.
Kiwi 1 kids show they are Self Managers by taking responsibility for their own belongings; hanging up their own school bag and putting their reading folder into their desk before the bell goes in the morning. We also show we are fabulous listeners by being respectful at mat times.

Our Letter of the Week this week was Bb so we made our very own bubble wands and tested them out with some bubble mixture.
Blowing bubbles was lots of fun!
